We left bright and early at 8am! We loaded the bus having no idea what we were in for or what was happening on the trip...and boy were we in for a big surprise that first day. What we didn't know is we wouldn't be going to Wales until Friday. Thursday was going to be spent doing a church history tour and then spending the night in northern England. It was a long day but it was still really fun. I am convinced now that the girls and I can make anything we do fun! :)
We went through a series of stops and took fun pictures along the way. We learned a ton.
We arrived at the hostile we would be staying in for the night in a small town in north England. We didn't even know where we were on a map! We had to ask. There were 3 restaurants in the whole town which was just a little street! The only food we could find was traditional English food consisting of kidneys and liver. So we ordered the squash soup just to be safe...
Our hostile was a little scary. Not danger scary but creepy nasty scary. There were hairs all over the beds and the showers had hair balls in them. It was worse than camping! We all had a good laugh making our beds...we were laughing and throwing the gross thin pillows at each other. We do make things fun. We chose to laugh versus cry over how unsanitary it was!

We got up early ready to get out of the hostile as quickly as possible and finally headed for WALES! We drove to our first stop: Tintern Abbey. It was beautiful, and very much like Fountain's Abbey. It was an abandoned abbey where monks used to preside and worship. It was all outdoors, and it was fun and beautiful to see even though it was raining.
After our time at Tintern, we moved on and drove to a coal mine called Big Pit. We had the opportunity to tour underground. It was a ton of fun! Our tour guide was HILARIOUS! We had a great time and it was fun to hear the stories of the miners! We learned about the harsh conditions down in the mines. Many people lost their lives due to the conditions and accidents with lethal methane gas. We had to take off our watches so that the battery would not cause an explosion if we came up on methane gas. Our tour guide made us sing the National Anthem at the top of our lungs down there because we were American.
That night we went down to the water after checking into the hotel. We got to see the water down at the bay. We rode the Marry-go-round for 2 pounds. We felt like kids, but it was so much fun. How often do you get to do that? Especially in Wales! As soon as we saw it we took the opportunity up, and loved it. After we were done out walking by the bay, we went to dinner at Wagamammas, a Japanese restaurant. After dinner we were exhausted. We walked a mile back to the hotel and Carly, Liz, Kinsey, Annie and I talked until like 2am :)
Saturday before we headed home we had some free time in the city. We shopped and ate lunch downtown. It was so much fun because there was a rugby game going on against Ireland, so everyone was pumped up and there were people everywhere!
We then went to an outdoor museum and learned about Welsh life. It doesn't sound interesting but it was actually really fun. We got to see farm animals. I love baby lambs (ewes) and we got to see them up close. It was fun to be in the country and have green everywhere we looked! It was beautiful in Wales. We had a blast, but were exhausted when we got home late Saturday night.
This month has been amazing with only more fun memories to make in Ireland, France, and Belgium!
